LAB Sep 2008 Esplanade The Studios

70 mins

In LAB, Joavien relooked into the economics of human existence and survival. Inspired by a collection of 3 documentary films from the 1940s on lab rats' behaviorism and social psychology, LAB reveals the human psychology and exposes a human lab-rat environment that juxtaposes the human body in its extremity of civilised and organic forms.

1. Competition and Dominance Hierarchies
2. Motivation and Reward in Learning
3. Experimentally Produced Social Problems

LAB was commissioned by Esplanade - theatres on the bay for The Studios 2008. It was first presented as a 15 minute solo dance installation in 2005 by Ecnad for its 10th Anniversary Festival, Fireball.
